Don’t Get Caught Out: Microsoft has changed the way they ask you to upgrade

Windows 10 Upgrade

If you want to upgrade to Windows 10 and just haven’t got round to doing it yet. Then you better put some time in your diary toot sweet, you’ve only got until the 29th July to take advantage of the free upgrade.

However if you currently like your earlier version of Windows beware the ‘upgrade now’ pop-up. It’s changed!

Unlike your standard pop ups where clicking the cross in the top right hand corner typically closes a pop-up, for the Windows 10 upgrade pop-up, clicking the cross will actually schedule the upgrade on your computer.

Don’t worry though it’s not all doom and gloom as you have a second chance to cancel the upgrade when the scheduled time comes round, just make sure you chose the cancel upgrade option.

It’s been called a ‘nasty trick’ by some and accused of ‘frustrating users’ by others, and yes it’s not strictly conventional but as Microsoft plans in the long term to move users off previous versions it does make sense to make the switch now. Give yourself lots of time to familiarise yourself with the new version and get as used to it as you did with your older version of windows.
